Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of tutoring services does Act Your Best offer?
I offer group and personalised tutoring services in drama and acting. These include scheduled One to One Coaching sessions for children and adults looking for guidance on a particular piece for a show, exam or audition. I run two weekly classes, one focused on learning foundational acting techniques, or on Monologue understanding, breakdown and performance.
How long are the sessions?
Weekly Monologue Slam and Acting Technique sessions are 30 minutes long at start at set times.
One to One Coaching sessions are also 30 mins slots but an available time can be chosen between 10 and 11.30am on the available days. Please request the the time as early as possible to get your preferred time slot.
What should I expect in my first individual tutoring session?
Individual tutoring sessions are tailored to the student's needs, focusing on developing or improving a performance piece of the student's choosing. Having already discussed what you wish to work on via email prior to the session, we may decide to:
*Spend time discussing and analysing the piece
*Try reading out and/or performing parts of the script together
*Spend time noticing what is already going well
*Try out new suggestions on how to make the piece clearer or more interesting
Important to know: You do not need to know the words but the more aquainted you are with the script the more you will get out of the session.
How do I sign up for a session?
Fill in and submit the information form. These are found at the bottom of the three course pages which are found on the home page. You will then receive a welcome email with a request for payment. Once payment is received you will receive login details for the zoom session.
How do I prepare for my session?
Your session will take place on zoom so it is important that you have a device with zoom downloaded. Please check your camera and microphone are working before the session starts. Set yourself up in a quiet room with enough room for you to move around.
Have paper, pen and pencil handy and a drink of water incase you need it.
If you are having a One to One Coaching session it is important that you bring the piece you would like to work on and that you have previously emailed this over to me. It is not a requirement that you know your words but the more familiar you are with the piece, the more you will get out of the coaching.
If you are taking part in an Acting Technique or Monologue Slam session you may have been asked to spend some time working on a script, if so please have it with you.
